Spring 2017 Poetry Slam

Spring 2017 Poetry Slam

Poets of Ventura College!  On Thursday, April 13th, the college will host its second Poetry Slam during the Diversity In Culture Festival.  We’re now actively looking for students to submit their poetry for a chance to perform during the Slam and win prizes!

In conjunction with our One Book One Campus selection for 2017, Make Your Home Among Strangers by Jennine Capo Crucet, our theme for the poetry slams is “what it means to be a stranger.”  Poets are welcome—and encouraged—to interpret this theme any way they see fit in their writing.

To enter the Poetry Slam Contest, simply register a user account with VC Voices, then submit your entry.  When selecting a category for your submission, please only select “2017 Poetry Slam Submission.”

We will contact all poets who submit their work to provide further information about the Slam.  For poets interested in learning a little about writing and performing poetry, a small series of workshops will be held on Wednesday afternoons leading up to the event, though students are not required to attend these sessions if they are not able.

Thank you, and we hope to see some outstanding poetry from our students here at VC!
