There is a two word phrase in the English language,
That spoken symbolizes a bad decision
Is about to happen.
It is,
“Watch this!”
I said “Watch this!”
When I was eight,
And decided to buy
Every movie on demand.
I said “Watch this!”
Right as I threw
My first punch,
In my almost first fist fight.
I said “Watch this!”
Before I cut my hair
To an obscure style,
And everyone said it would look bad.
It did.
I said “Watch this!”
As I plucked a star from space,
And placed it in a glass jar.
Out of an act of carelessness,
And loss of control.
It looked like a lighting bug
I once caught in my Aunt’s backyard.
I was captivated by the fleeting glow,
And the momentary light.
I said “Watch this!”
As I took the jar and placed it in my desk drawer,
Because that’s where all things forgotten,
But constantly on the back of your mind go.
I said “Watch this!”
As I became tethered to that jar.
Not like a boat to a dock,
But a prisoner to a post.
I said “Watch this!”
As I would pull it out of my drawer.
Constantly soaking in the light,
So I could forget the feeling of darkness.
I said “Watch this!”
When I offered someone a sublet to my heart,
Then it turned out they were a horrible roommate.
I said “Watch this!”
As I donated happiness
Like you donate blood,
And bled out every last bit for them.
I said “Watch this!”
As they tore up the floorboards with their bare hands,
And walked out of the front door.
Carrying all the kindness
I kept stored in there with them.
I said “Watch this!”
As I saw that it was left stripped and bare.
The only parts they didn’t take with them
Being a shell and a weak foundation.
In the end,
I was left picking up
The scattered glass jigsaw pieces
Of my life.
And I said “Watch this!”
As I began to fit them
Back together again.
