Outer space; no thank you.

After reading The Martian, by Andy Weir, and a chapter about choosing astronauts from Packing for Mars, if I were to be given the chance to go into space I would honestly choose not to do it. This is because after reading about going into space, you never know what can or cannot go wrong. For example, you get to plan the trip ahead of time and if something goes wrong you have very few chances to survive. Also, there can be some biological and psychological issues going along with that trip. One of the biological issues, for instance, can be adapting to space’s atmosphere and different types of climate, whether it can be really hot or cold. Another issue is adapting to the time and how to manage food in order for it to last the days I would be staying in space. On the other side, some psychological issues that would be hard for me to endure could be leaving my family behind, not knowing if I will ever see them again, that is why I do not see myself becoming an astronaut, because I am so attached to my family that I cannot even go a week without seeing them. Another reason is that I would definitely miss my mom’s cooking, and advice.  I feel like if I were to ever get into a problem in space I would panic right away without knowing what to do, especially thinking about running out of oxygen or being left behind, like it happened with Mark Watney, and die. Because of these reasons, if I ever want to know about other planets and the universe, I’d rather do some research, instead of going personally to check it out.
