Spring 2018 POETRY SLAM CONTEST!!!

POETRY SLAM:  SPRING 2018

Poets of Ventura College!  On Wednesday, April 11th, the college will host its third annual Poetry Slam during the Diversity In Culture Festival.  We’re now actively looking for students to submit their poetry for a chance to perform during the Slam and to win $250, $150, and $100 for first, second, and third prizes.

In conjunction with our One Book One Campus selection for 2018, The Handmaid’s Tale, by Margaret Atwood, our theme for the poetry slams is “Breaking Silence.”  Poets are welcome—and encouraged—to interpret this theme any way they see fit in their writing.

To enter the Poetry Slam Contest, simply register a user account with VC Voices, then submit your entry.  When selecting a category for your submission, please only select “2018 Poetry Slam Submission.”

We will contact all poets who submit their work to provide further information about the Slam, so please check your email regularly.  For poets interested in learning a little about writing and performing poetry, a small series of workshops hosted by local slam poet Fernando Salinas will be held on Monday afternoons leading up to the event, though students are not required to attend these sessions if they are not able.

Thank you, and we hope to see some outstanding poetry from our students here at VC!
